It is strictly used on the wires comprising your electrical circuits and not on phone lines or services. This package contains the means to attach to an Ethernet hub, transmit the signal using the powerline, receive it, and then distribute it to up to 4 devices. The product is compatible with Actiontec's older 85 Mbps product. The adapter has 2 prongs which can be easily inverted for space requirements. In terms of reviews, there are mixed feedback from buyers. Some have found it to work fine and as expected. However, others have found that most of the units purchased stopped working after a few months or so, rendering the system useless. Some buyers also had a hard time getting the connection even between outlets on different circuit breakers. There are also reports of the product burning out after six months of usage, or arriving dead straight out of the box. The 4-port adapter also turns off by itself. Some buyers claim that the product regularly underperforms per its stated 500 Mbps speed and needs to be unplugged and re-plugged in to provide network access.
