Question:
Did replacing the latch resolve the issue of having to manually push it back into place after opening?
Answer: Yes, I had the same problem and replacing it did eliminate the problem. The old latch was rusted badly from salt spray during winter driving. I had removed it, cleaned and lubed it, but a few months later it started sticking again. Replacement was the only fix.
