They usually work okay without bolting, but for safety reasons, the manufacturer recommends at least using a double-sided adhesive strip like B0026SM9D0. You will need a 14mm or 9/16" drill bit to drill the holes for the anchors. The kit comes with four 4" lag screws and washers for installation. The product can easily stop your car without being fixed to the floor. The rubber smell will go away over time, and it is not a big issue as you won't spend much time in the garage.
